Dekoloniale Netzwerk in Berlin

Berlin’s colonial past is omnipresent - although not always visible. Activists, artists, and members of the African diaspora want the city to face its responsibility as a former colonial metropolis and imperial capital. With Decolonial Culture of Remembrance in the City, the Dekoloniale Netwerk in Berlin is a cultural project which began in January 2020 to critically examine the history of colonialism and its consequences. As a member of the network, I hope to work alongside other anti-colonial people in Germany.

Decolonial culture of remembrance in the city understands colonialism as a system of injustice that has always met with resistance from the colonized. The project takes up the increasingly louder demands for a consistent change of perspective in the post-colonial culture of remembrance. Instead of colonial and colonial racist actors: from now on, the victims and opponents of colonial racism and exploitation should receive attention and appreciation. You can read more about this on the Dekoloniale Website.
